My travels

This week I am going travelling around southern Nigeria.
Follow the internet links to see where I am going.

First I will go to Osogbo to see outdoor sculptures. They are part of a shrine to the Yoruba religion:

Then I will go to near Calabar to visit a monkey reserve and Afi Mountain:

Farm Visit

The farm is mainly for growing mangos.
There were different size mangos.
Some mangos were very sweet!

Sugar cane and chilli pepper are grown together.

This cover is made from plants.
It protects the seedlings from the heavy rains.

The farmers also want to catch fish.
The river is blocked by this net.
Many fish are trapped on one side.

The hills around Jos

Here are the hills near Jos.

Jos is in the highest part of Nigeria, in the Jos Plateau.

I went for a walk with some people from an organisation who are trying to conserve the landscape.

They also hope that more local people and tourists will be interested in walking in the hills.

During the 1800's people hid up in the hills as they were being attacked.

Here you can see where they used to make iron objects.

Here are the remains of one stone hut.

I want to go back in the rainy season.

People say that the landscape changes a lot.

It becomes very green and many flowers grow up.

Port Harcourt is in the south.
A lot of oil companies are based here.

Water

These are the water tanks.
Sometimes the mains water goes off.
We store water here so that we have enough.

Only a few people can afford washing machines.
Most people have to wash by hand.

I have to wash by hand too!
I use several buckets.
It takes about one hour every week.

This is harbour in Lagos.
It is in the South-West of Nigeria.
It is a huge port with very large ships.

Wedding

Here I am at a friend's wedding!
It was on two different days.

As you can see, I wore traditional clothes.
On the first day I wore white.
On the second day I wore blue.

I danced a little and the music was great.
There were all sorts of instruments.
I will try and get a photograph of some soon

Lizards

Meet one of my new friends!

They are all over the school.

I have to be quick to take a photo of them.

Some are large, about as long as two hands.

Morning time in Kaduna

The weather here is hot and cold.

In the morning it is quite cold.

This is the view from my house in the morning at 6 am.

I have arrived!

I am now in Kaduna in Nigeria.

I have been welcomed so warmly!

I am now at the school I will work at.

The children in the school are deaf.

So I am really enjoying learning to sign.

I will try and add some photos soon.

Hope you are all well at Wysing!

The town is called Kaduna.

Food in Nigeria

This picture shows people buying and selling fish.

The fish is kept in the water.

This keeps it fresh and safe to eat.

This shows women grinding up Yam.

Yams are like large roots.

Yams can be eaten like we eat potatoes.

Welcome to our blog everyone!

A blog is a kind of diary that we can make together.

We can do this on the computer.

We can write or add pictures or drawings.

We decide what goes on it.

I would like to tell you what I do in Nigeria.

Please tell me what you do at Wysing.

Please ask me questions about Nigeria.

I hope we can all learn something from this.

And have some fun too!

Add something new. Then you will see it on the left.
